Black – Am I

AquaFlo

I can remember when I hated being Black
The reason 4 this u were holding me back
U were holding something more precious than gold
The History of my People; Black People of Old
Bought me off a ship
Where we were placed one by one … hip 2 hip
Sat on top of one anotha
Da man or woman next 2 me; my susta or my brotha
2 to 3 levels high; no room 4 movement; not even a cry
Placed in ¼’s; shacks not fyt 4 dawgs
Fed what masta didn’t eat; guts & feet from da hogs
Whipped each time I tries 2 flee
Da man don’t give many chances; cut off @ da knee
I can remember when I hated being Black
Attacks from those who wanna b on the same track
U were holding something more precious than Silver
The History of my People; Black People who jus shiver
And shake off da pain u were giving
Neva stopped coming; u say I should not b living
U r my master; I am ur slave
I work 4 u; u dig my grave
We sing songs of Holy praise
As we pick cotton n da hot sunny rays
Prayin 2 da Lord He give us a way 2 b free
Being Black, being u, being me
Y is dys happening 2 we?

My children will come & endure this sorrow
Still … I want them 2 shyne, but whose can they borrow?
U hurt my people … still we try 2 stay strong
Nah we killin ourself & don’t think it’s wrong
Learned behavior we pickd from those who hate us
Now 2day wanna date us

When we gone straighten it up & quit all da fuss?
God’s always been with us
Neva left us alone
It was His strength we lived on
So we sleep & wake on the breath the Lord chooses 2 breathe
Prayer 2 lift me from this Zombie life I lead
I am Black n U n me
Black 2 b ….
The People of Old; the People of Gold; Black … Not 2 b sold!
