While watching bald eagles soar behind my house, something occurred to me: their characteristics are very closely aligned with members of the West Michigan Social Club. In what ways, you might ask? Well, some of the characteristics of the eagle are wisdom, courage, stamina, and strength. And I thought to myself that those are the very characteristics it takes for a person to venture out into the unknown waters of the WMSC! Broken down into the acronym WMSC, I would put it like this:
W: Wisdom. The kind of wisdom it takes to step out of our comfort zone and be our authentic selves with other like-minded people.
M: Messengers. We are capable of providing comfort, peace, and balance to others. Even those members we meet in passing leave an impression on someone, somewhere.
S: Stamina. It takes stamina to venture into the unknown and meet new people, despite our fear of judgment. We battle through disappointments and uncertainty and discover strengths we never knew we had.
C: Cultivators. We encourage personal growth, not just in ourselves, but also in others. It takes time to reap what we sow and with the patience of the eagle, love and friendships bloom in time.
May we all soar like eagles in whatever path we choose!
